When should Qurbani be carried out?

Image
The first point that we have to understand is that Qurbani (Udhiyah) is prescribed at a particular time just like salah/prayer is at a prescribed time. Fasting is prescribed in Ramadan. Hajj is prescribed at a specific time. Udhiyah is an act of worship that has a start and an end time. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا نَبْدَأُ مِنْ يَوْمِنَا هَذَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ، ثُمَّ نَرْجِعَ فَنَنْحَرَ، فَمَنْ فَعَلَ فَقَدْ أَصَابَ سُنَّتَنَا ‏”‏‏.‏ He said that “the first thing we do on this day is we pray, i.e. the prayer of Eid and then we return back then we perform our slaughter or sacrifice and whoever has done so, then they have followed my sunnah”. And so, performing the Udhiyah begins at the time after the prayer of Eid has taken place and the Prophet ( ﷺ ) said specifically: “whoever does it beforehand, it’s not accepted.” He said, وَمَنْ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ Whoever has done their slaughter before this time, فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ لَحْمٌ عَجَّلَهُ لأَهْلِهِ All he has...

What is Qurbani?

The Prophet (ﷺ) was once asked: “What is Qurbani?” The Prophet (ﷺ) replied: “It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim (AS). For every hair of the Qurbani you receive a reward from Allah (SWT).” [ Tirmidhi ] Qurbani is a sacrificial practice of an animal whose meat is distributed to those in need. The willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (as) to sacrifice his son Ishmail (as) as an act of obedience to Allah (swt) demonstrated his unrelenting faith. Why are the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah important?

Image
Our Prophet Muhammad (S) taught us that the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are the most beloved days to Allah.  These are the days where Hajj is performed, where the Day of Arafah takes place, and it’s also the days where our Prophet (S) encouraged us to do righteous deeds. Some righteous deeds which we can do are to recite the Quran, increase in Adkhar, give in charity, and even strengthen the relationship with our families and friends.  The 10 days of Dhul Hijjah is an absolutely beautiful time for the believer to increase in reward and barakah Insha Allah.  Read more on what our TeamOrange says: https://www.pennyappeal.ca/blog/dhul-hijjah/
